Blog #3- The 4 Gospel Writers
1) What are specific things that you learned about the Gospel Writers from the group presentations?
I overall learned so much from all of these presentations. I pretty much didn't know any of these things before these presentations. I always thought that they were written right after Jesus' death by only Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. I thought wrong, because these presentations taught me that there were many writers to each book and some of them were second accounts made 40 years later. Another thing I learned was who the audience was toward. Like Matthew is written for the Jewish people and Luke was written for the Greeks.
2) Based on class discussion, what were similarities you saw within the 4 Gospel readings?
There are many similarities in each of the Gospels.
One similarity is that they all tell the story of Jesus' life. Another is all of their goals were to preach about Jesus and spread the word of God. Also, all of their symbols have wings. And all of the Gospels are written for either the Jews or the Gentiles. Everyone of the Gospels were also believed to have been originally written in Greek. Those are just some of the many similarities in the four Gospels.
3) Based on class discussion, what were differences you saw within the 4 Gospel readings?
Despite all the similarities of the 4 Gospels their are also some differences. There are many major and minor differences in each of the Gospels. One of them is they all have different purposes. Another is they are directed towards a different audience. Lastly, these were written in different time periods. Both of the similarities and differesence are important to know, many people just think that all the Gospels are the same.
4) From information you gathered from the presentations and class discussions, which Gospel would you prefer to read and why?
I would prefer to read John. One main thing is that my group did John so I understand it the most. This helped me know more about John, therefore I know more about the background. Even though the Gospel of John was written 60 years after Jesus' death John was one of his disciples and some of the book comes from his point of view. This would be cool to read because John was their with Jesus from the beginning. That is why I would read John and why I think it would be the most interesting.
